How to remove knife rust naturally:

  • White vinegar: White vinegar is a natural product that can be used to remove knife rust. Soak a clean cloth in white vinegar and rub the stains until they disappear. Alternatively, fill a container of hot water with white vinegar and immerse the blade for about 15 minutes. Rinse, dry and cover the blade with vegetable oil for optimum preservation.
  • Lemon juice: Lemon juice contains citric acid, which can be effective to remove knife rust. Soak a clean cloth in lemon juice and rub stains until they disappear. Rinse, dry and cover the blade with vegetable oil for optimum preservation.
  • Baking soda: Baking soda can be used to remove knife rust. To use baking soda, mix it with hot water to form a paste. Apply this paste to the knife and leave for about 15 minutes.  Rinse, dry and cover the blade with vegetable oil for optimum preservation.
  • Potatoes: Rich in oxalic acid, potatoes can remove rust from knives. To use a potato, simply cut it in half and rub it over the rusty part of the knife. For best results, sprinkle a little salt or baking soda over the potato before rubbing. Then rinse the knife, dry it and cover the blade with vegetable oil for optimum preservation.
  • cork and mild cleansing milk: This simple trick uses items commonly found around the home to remove rust from a knife. Start by finding a cork (like those found on wine bottles) and some mild cleansing milk. Gently rub the milk onto the blade using the cork. Then rinse the knife, dry it and cover the blade with vegetable oil for optimum preservation.
